BOJ Hints at Rate Hike in September Amid Rising Inflation Concerns
Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino hinted at a potential interest rate hike in September, according to a press conference held on August 28. Many market participants expect a BOJ rate hike in September.
Himino stated that the BOJ will consider raising its policy interest rate 'at every monetary policy meeting, including the next one' in September. This comes as the underlying inflation rate is approaching the BOJ's target of 2%.
The deputy governor emphasized the need to be 'even more mindful of upside risks to prices,' given the current inflation trend.
In response to a question about whether it was too soon to assess the effects of the June rate hike, Himino said that the BOJ 'aren't saying we'll not take a single step until complete information becomes available.'
