BoJ Holds Rates Amid Positive Economic Data

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) is set to keep its policy rate unchanged at 1.00% on July 31, following a 25-basis-point hike in June.

Although some analysts expect a faster tightening cycle and potentially an October hike, the BoJ's decision to retain its tightening bias suggests that any modest hawkish shift will not significantly impact the yen or USD/JPY outlook.

Recent economic data has been positive, with strong retail sales figures and a buoyant Tankan business survey for the second quarter. This has likely provided comfort to the BoJ's view of an ongoing virtuous cycle between company profits, higher wages, consumption, and prices.
