Japan's capital city is experiencing rising inflation, with key measures showing an uptick in price pressures. The annual inflation rate, excluding fresh food items, reached 1.8% in August, up from July's 1.7%. This marks the third consecutive month of acceleration and matches consensus forecasts.

The headline CPI figure showed a 1.9% gain, while prices excluding energy costs and fresh food climbed 2%. Significant contributors to this increase include education-related durable goods, recreational expenses, and healthcare fees.

Services sector inflation, closely watched by policymakers as a sign of sustainable price growth, posted a 1.4% annual increase. The Bank of Japan is now facing mounting pressure to raise interest rates next month, with financial markets pricing in an 82% likelihood of action.
