The Bank of Japan (BOJ) has maintained its interest rates steady at 1% in a decision announced on Friday, July 31. The move was made by an 8-1 vote, with Board member Hajime Takata dissenting from the majority. He advocated for a rate hike to 1.25%, which would further increase borrowing costs.

The BOJ stressed its readiness to continue pushing up interest rates to combat mounting inflation risks. Governor Kazuo Ueda will hold a news conference at 3:30 p.m. (0630 GMT) to explain the policy decision in more detail.
