BOJ Meeting in Focus as Japan's 10-Year Bond Yield Hits 2.78%
Japan's benchmark 10-year government bond (JGB) yield rose on Tuesday as investors grew increasingly concerned about the government's fiscal outlook ahead of a Bank of Japan policy meeting. The 10-year JGB yield climbed to 2.78% before holding at that level, up 1 basis point from Monday.
The lack of consensus among ruling and opposition parties over proposed tax cuts contributed to investor caution. Despite Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's indication that the government will quickly submit legislation for the tax cuts, investors remained uncertain about how the government plans to finance them.
Market participants are now looking ahead to the Bank of Japan's policy meeting on Friday, where analysts expect the central bank to maintain a cautious tone despite persistent inflationary pressures. While some economists anticipate another rate increase later this year, particularly if the yen remains under pressure, the BOJ is expected to avoid signalling an aggressive tightening cycle.
