BOJ Policymakers Push for Faster Rate Hikes Amid Inflation Risks

The Bank of Japan's case for raising interest rates in September has strengthened after a growing chorus of policymakers argued for a more forceful response to mounting inflation risks.

A summary of opinions at the BOJ's July meeting showed that at least three board members believed the bank could raise rates more quickly than its current pace of roughly two increases a year.

The hawkish tone in the summary reinforces market expectations that the BOJ will raise rates as soon as September, following a joint intervention by Tokyo and Washington to prop up the yen.
