The Bank of Japan is set to consider raising its policy interest rate at its next meeting on September 17-18, according to informed sources.

This would be the BOJ's first rate hike in three months and would bring the policy interest rate to around 1.25%.

The last time the policy interest rate stood at 1.25% was back in April 1995.

BOJ Governor Kazuo Ueda stated that 'we are coming quite close' to the price stability goal and hinted at a potential rate increase.
