BOJ Set to Hike Rates by 25bps Next Week
The Bank of Japan is likely to raise its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points at its upcoming monetary policy meeting, bringing the key rate to 1.25%.
This would be the second rate hike this year, following one in June, and marks a significant shift in the country's monetary policy from gradual normalization to a more pronounced tightening phase.
The recent surge in Japan's consumer prices, driven by higher energy costs and increased corporate expenses due to the weaker yen, is bringing inflation closer to the Bank of Japan's 2% target.
Market attention will likely turn from the size of the rate hike to the pace at which the Bank of Japan will pursue further increases, as rising Japanese rates could impact the profitability of 'yen carry trades' and increase volatility in global financial markets.
