BoJ's Himino Balances Economic Data and Inflation Risks on Rates Decision
Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino emphasized the need to balance economic data and inflation risks when making decisions on interest rates. Speaking on Thursday, he stated that the central bank will reach a decision by taking into account the need for information on the economy, financial conditions, and acting in a timely fashion to avoid being behind the curve on inflation.
Himino also mentioned that the BoJ can proceed with its current bond taper plan as there are no specific distortions in JGB markets. He highlighted that underlying inflation is nearing 2%, which will be taken into consideration when making policy decisions.
