BOJ's Himino Stresses Need for Timely Rate Hikes Amid Inflation Risks
Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino emphasized the need for timely interest rate hikes to address inflation risks, reinforcing market expectations of a near-term increase in borrowing costs.
In a news conference on Thursday, Himino stated that 'we must balance the need to gain as much information as possible and acting in a timely fashion to avoid being behind the curve on inflation.'
He noted that the BOJ will debate the desirable pace and timing of rate hikes at each meeting to stabilize underlying inflation around 2%.
