Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda likely met US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday, according to a source close to the matter. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Group of 20 finance leaders' gathering in Asheville, North Carolina. This two-day meeting ended on Tuesday.

The Japanese public broadcaster NHK had earlier reported that Bessent met Ueda on Sunday, quoting a senior US Treasury Department official.
