BOJ's Ueda Skips Jackson Hole Amid Rate-Hike Pressure
Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda has decided not to attend the Jackson Hole policy symposium hosted by the US Federal Reserve, according to Kyodo News and the Nikkei. The central bank cited a 'overall consideration' of his schedule as the reason for his absence.
The decision comes amid pressure from Washington for Tokyo to raise interest rates, with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent pushing Ueda to take action.
Ueda plans to attend the Group of 20 finance ministers and central bank governors meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, instead. This year's Jackson Hole symposium is drawing attention due to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's keynote address, his first at the event since taking office.
