Bond Market Anticipates Rate Hike as US Stocks Dip Slightly
The bond market is gearing up for a potential hike in interest rates as investors bet on the Federal Reserve's move to combat high inflation. The S&P 500 index fell by 0.2% after fluctuating between gains and losses throughout the morning.
Despite this, economists say that Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's speech has strengthened faith in the central bank's ability to control inflation, even if it causes short-term economic pain.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped by just 9 points, or less than 0.1%, while the Nasdaq composite slipped by 0.5%.
