Bond Market Woes Weigh on US Futures, Oil Prices

US financial markets and oil prices are experiencing pressure due to ongoing bond market concerns. US futures for the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq are down, with the S&P 500's future dropping by 0.2%. The Dow Jones and Nasdaq futures fell by 0.1% and 0.7%, respectively.

The Federal Reserve is struggling to bring inflation back to its target rate of 2%. Inflation has risen due to tariffs imposed globally and the Iran war, which slowed oil shipments from the Strait of Hormuz. Rising bond yields forced the US Treasury Department into an intervention last week, sparking concerns about higher borrowing costs affecting consumer spending.

The 10-year Treasury yield rose back to 4.73% on Friday, matching its highest point in more than a year. The 30-year Treasury yield climbed and is near its highest level since 2007. Higher yields can slow the economy and lower investment prices.
