Brazil's central bank and the European Central Bank (ECB) are exploring the possibility of linking their instant payment systems, Pix and TARGET Instant Payment Settlement (TIPS), in a move that could mark the first cross-border expansion of Pix.

The discussions reflect a willingness by technical teams on both sides to assess whether such an interconnection is feasible. According to sources, a pilot project could be launched in 2028 if the initiative advances as planned.

Pix has become a flashpoint between Brasília and Washington as the Trump administration aims to protect U.S. firms from the model's growing appeal in dozens of countries.
