Brazil's Pix May Connect with European Instant Payment System
The Brazilian Central Bank and the European Central Bank are exploring a potential connection between Pix, Brazil's instant payment system, and TIPS, Europe's instant payment platform. This integration could represent Pix's first international expansion, with a pilot project potentially launching in 2028.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, technical teams from both central banks are assessing the feasibility of the connection. While no decision has been made, one source indicated that a pilot project could be launched in 2028 if the initiative progresses as planned.
The European Central Bank has confirmed that it is conducting a preliminary investigation to explore the possibility of interconnecting TIPS and Pix. This move follows previous interest from the ECB in exploring connections with Pix, which was mentioned in June.
