Gold prices continued their downward trend on Friday, losing ground as Brent crude oil breached the $100 per barrel mark. This development strengthened the case for higher interest rates ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting next week.

The price of gold fell 0.4% to $4,030.09 per ounce, with prices down more than $130 from their two-week high hit on Wednesday. U.S. gold futures for August delivery also declined by 0.4% to $4,033.20.
