Global leaders from major emerging economies have gathered in India for the 18th BRICS Summit, seeking to bypass sanctions and break the US dollar's hold on global finance. The summit, which took place at Bharat Mandapam on September 12-13, 2026, brought together key international heads of state alongside representatives from recently joined member states.

The meeting occurs against a backdrop of active international conflicts and major economic initiatives aimed at transforming global trade cooperation. India has assumed the presidency of the group for the fourth time, marking a significant milestone in its leadership role within the BRICS nations.

The expanded group now includes 11 full member nations following the inclusion of Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened bilateral talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian ahead of the main sessions.
