BRICS Summit Marks Shift towards New World Order
The recent BRICS summit in New Delhi has marked a significant shift in global politics. The meeting brought together high-level diplomats from India, China, Iran, and other nations to address pressing international issues.
One of the key takeaways from the summit was the joint statement calling for protection of civilians, respect for sovereignty, and ceasefire agreements in conflict zones such as Gaza, Lebanon, Sudan, and Syria. This marks a departure from the prevailing world order dominated by the US.
The BRICS nations, representing 50% of the global population, 40% of GDP, and over 25% of trade, have come together to promote 'inclusive global growth' and strengthen international law. The group has hinted at a consensus to fend off economic shocks and work towards a gold-backed currency to replace the US dollar.
Notably, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, key allies of the US, were present at the summit and called for a new world order focused on collective humanity's benefit. President Xi Jinping's visit to India since 2019 and the debut of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have contributed to some much-needed 'ice-breaking'.
