Bulgaria Dumps Dual Pricing Rule for Euros

The mandatory dual indication of prices in Bulgarian levs and euros has come to an end on August 8. This measure was introduced as a temporary solution to help consumers adjust to the new currency and prevent unfair price increases by traders.

From now on, traders can continue to indicate the lev equivalent of prices, but only for informational purposes. The price in euros must be clearly marked as the sole selling and payable price, while the lev value is only a reference point.

The dual indication of prices was intended to ease the transition to the euro currency, which Bulgaria adopted last year. However, with the end of this period, businesses are free to use their existing printed materials, such as menus and catalogues, without having to completely re-print them or destroy them.
