Bulgarian Inflation Hits 5.1%, Driven by Transport Costs

Inflation in Bulgaria rose to 5.1% in August, making it the third-highest rate in the eurozone, according to Eurostat.

Transport costs were a major contributor to this increase, with Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov stating that these costs are putting pressure on prices.

Food prices actually declined, but regulatory oversight is still needed, Pekanov emphasized.

Pekanov also criticized the tourism sector, which experienced some of the largest price increases in July and August. He noted that hoteliers and restaurateurs made decisions to raise prices, which he believes are unsustainable and put the sector's long-term performance at risk.
