Bulgaria's Eurozone Transition: A Successful Start, but Stability Remains a Choice
Bulgaria's transition to the eurozone has been successful, according to BNB Governor Dimitar Radev. Seven months after introducing the euro, Bulgaria has seen no disruptions in payments, and all accounts have been converted. The operation affected almost every contract, account, and cash register in the country.
Radev notes that society will evaluate membership in the eurozone not just by the quality of the technical transition but also through everyday life, including prices, interest rates, access to credit, and savings security.
The BNB Governor warns that while there is reason to be satisfied with the current situation, complacency is unwarranted. The next stage for Bulgaria means active participation in the Eurosystem, accurate explanation of inflation, careful monitoring of the internal credit cycle, and maintaining a preventive capital policy.
