Bulgaria's annual inflation rate has accelerated to 5.1% in August from 4.4% in July, according to Eurostat's preliminary estimate based on the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

This puts Bulgaria among the eurozone countries with the highest inflation rates, surpassed only by Lithuania and Cyprus at 5.8% and 5.2%, respectively.

The average inflation rate across the eurozone rose to 3.3% from 2.9% a month earlier, driven mainly by energy prices, according to Eurostat's preliminary estimate.
