Bulgaria's Inflation 'Not One of Its Problems', Says Former Minister
Nikolay Vassilev, a financier and former Minister of Economy, argued that Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone has no correlation with higher inflation in the country. He claimed that inflation is not one of Bulgaria's problems, especially considering it is the poorest country in the EU with significant income growth over recent years.
Vassilev pointed out that even during months with deflation and seasonal fluctuations, Bulgaria still experienced some level of inflation. He cited recent data showing an annual inflation rate of around 4%, stating that such a figure should not be cause for concern.
The expert emphasized the importance of understanding normal economic processes, where increases in prices are often a result of market forces rather than government intervention. Vassilev believes that the state has no role to play in controlling prices and argued that raising prices is 'normal market behavior.'
