Burlison Taps Fed Interest Payments for Healthcare Funding Plan

US Rep Eric Burlison R-Missouri has proposed a plan to fund his Great American Healthcare Act by redirecting the Federal Reserve's interest payments on bank reserves.

The estimated $1 trillion the Fed will spend over the next decade would be redirected toward implementing the legislation, which aims to expand eligibility for Health Savings Accounts and increase yearly contribution limits.

The bill also includes measures to require hospitals and insurance brokers to show real dollar prices instead of estimates for treatments and healthcare plans, respectively.

However, experts warn that halting interest payments on bank reserves could lead to unintended consequences, such as higher interest rates and reduced Federal Reserve control over the economy.
