Burnham Condemns Thatcher-Era Policies for UK's Low Growth

Labour Prime Minister Andy Burnham delivered his first Commons speech since taking office six weeks ago, attributing the UK's decade of low growth to Brexit and Margaret Thatcher's policies.

Burnham argued that Britain has taken 'a series of wrong turns' in the last 40 years, including de-industrialization, centralizing power, and privatizing key sectors.

He cited economists' analysis showing a 6% hit to the UK economy due to Brexit and claimed that the government's austerity measures have hollowed out councils and deprived them of agency.

Burnham vowed to be 'relentless' in fulfilling his priorities, including cutting costs for essentials like childcare and mortgages, regenerating communities, and increasing public control over key services such as water, housing, and energy.
