Cambridge Professor's Memoir to Publish Amid Plagiarism Controversy

Jason Arday's resignation as professor of sociology at Cambridge University has added to the controversy surrounding his PhD thesis and research. The university placed him under investigation after allegations of plagiarism surfaced, which Arday denied in a statement.

The timing of Arday's resignation coincides with the upcoming publication of his memoir, Great and Unfortunate Things, by Simon & Schuster on August 11th in the US and 27th in the UK. The publisher has stated that it plans to go forward with the publication as scheduled despite the allegations.

Arday claimed in a previous interview that Simon & Schuster offered him $1.4 million for the memoir, but did not specify whether he meant dollars or pounds sterling. A publishing source said that while such an amount is rare, it's conceivable if the publisher secured worldwide rights to the book.
