Canada Aims to Attract $1-Trillion Through State-Run Industrial Strategies
The Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, is hosting an investment summit next month in Toronto. The event aims to attract up to $1-trillion in national and foreign investment through state-run industrial strategies.
Carney's Liberal government has outlined multiple government-led initiatives to transform the Canadian economy, including defence, housing, infrastructure, telecommunications, trade, AI technology, major projects, automotive, climate industries, and critical minerals.
The summit will feature a star-studded lineup of global corporate and financial elites, including Larry Fink of BlackRock Inc., top executives from Blackstone Inc. and Berkshire Hathaway Inc., and representatives of Saudi Arabia's public investment fund.
According to Carney's book 'Value(s): Building a Better World for All', the government needs to maximize its investment in both short-term economic activity and long-term physical, digital, and natural capital.
