Canada Can Thrive Without US Influence
The Green Party of Canada is calling for action in response to the US trade war and attacks on Canadian sovereignty. In a message directed at Donald Trump, they argue that Canadians have never lacked courage and vision, and it's time to put these qualities to work.
The party notes that even before Trump came to power, the US wielded undue influence in Canada's economy and politics. US firms own large parts of polluting industries such as fossil fuels, while US tech giants are dominating Canadian media and technology sectors.
The Green Party is advocating for several key initiatives, including building an east-west grid on low-cost renewables to power Canadian businesses, investing in small- and medium-sized enterprises, and ending federal subsidies and tax incentives for companies with majority US ownership.
They also propose creating a Federal Strategic Reserve of critical resources such as potash, aluminum, steel, and lumber to protect Canadian jobs and keep materials out of the hands of the US and its tariffs.
