Canada's economy has posted its fastest quarterly growth in three years, according to Statistics Canada. The country's GDP grew at an annualized rate of 3.3 per cent in the second quarter of 2026.

This strong performance is attributed to increased exports, residential investment, and business capital investment, as well as higher spending on machinery and equipment.

The Canadian government has also taken steps to counter a recent move by US President Donald Trump. The president signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America', which was met with condemnation from both sides of the border.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed his disapproval, while Democratic lawmakers in the US also spoke out against the decision.
