Canada Economy Surpasses Forecast with Strong Q2 Growth
The Canadian economy has made a strong recovery in the second quarter of this year, growing at an annualized pace of 3.3%. This is higher than the Bank of Canada's forecast and marks a significant rebound after the economy contracted slightly in the first quarter.
According to Statistics Canada, gross domestic product grew at an annualized 3.3% pace in the April-June period, following an upwardly revised 0.3% expansion in the first quarter. This means that Canada has avoided a technical recession, which is typically defined as two consecutive quarters of contraction.
The rebound was driven by stronger activity across various sectors, including oil and gas, construction, real estate, and manufacturing. Industry-level data had pointed to strength in these areas, helping Canada recover from a weak start to the year.
