Canada Fires Back at Trump Over Trade Threats

Canada's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson fired back at President Donald Trump over trade deficit threats, referencing the classic film 'Animal House.'

Hodgson stated that Canada will no longer discuss sharing critical minerals with the United States. He mentioned a new transmission line in British Columbia, set to double electricity capacity by 2032 and power new mines near the Alaskan border.

Trump claimed he could cut off trade entirely and cause Canada's economy to collapse, saying 'Canada would be in a heap of trouble' if he did so. He estimated that this would wipe out 95 percent of Canada's trade with the U.S.

However, Politico fact-checked Trump's claim, pointing out that the U.S. relies heavily on Canadian resources, particularly critical minerals used in defense and technology.
