Canada Fires Back at US Trade Penalties with Retaliatory Tariffs
Canada has decided to strike back at the United States and its massive $32.38 trillion economy with sweeping retaliatory tariffs, targeting approximately $20 billion worth of annual imports from the U.S.
The new duties, set to take effect on September 8, will apply to around 700 American products, including steel, aluminum, household appliances, electronics, railway equipment, and fresh and frozen fish.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney previously pledged that Ottawa would react to the American trade penalties 'dollar for dollar', aiming to protect Canadian workers, manufacturers, and producers rather than generating government revenue.
