Canada Hits Back at Trump with $20 Billion Tariff Counterattack

Canada has imposed tariffs on around $20 billion worth of US goods in response to the latest round of tariffs on Canadian exports. This move is seen as a significant escalation in the trade war between the two countries, which could have far-reaching implications for global trade.

The tariffs target hundreds of American products, including steel, aluminum, cheese, appliances, clothing, cosmetics, and farm equipment. The rates range from 15% to 50%, with some items facing a 25% tariff.

With a supply chain that supports tens of thousands of jobs across 47 US states, the company argues that its planes are already a 'clear winner on trade and exports'. Over 1,000 jobs in Kansas are directly linked to Bombardier's operations.

The Canadian government has framed its decision as a defense of national sovereignty. Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned that US demands could 'hollow out key Canadian industries' and limit the country's independence.
