Canada Hits Back with $20 Billion Retaliation Tariffs on US Goods
Canada has announced retaliatory tariffs on US goods worth up to $20 billion in response to the latest wave of taxes imposed by President Donald Trump. The Canadian tariffs will apply to nearly 28 billion Canadian dollars' worth of American products, including steel, furniture, fresh tuna, and cotton T-shirts.
The list of targeted products is designed to match Canadian goods hit by the US tariffs, which were imposed after trade talks collapsed last week. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Canada's retaliation is in response to 50% tariffs imposed on a range of Canadian goods, calling them 'proportionate' and 'strategic'.
The Canadian government will provide affected businesses and workers with an additional $7.5 billion in support programs designed to minimize job losses and keep companies afloat.
