Canada Imposes Counter Tariffs Amid US Trade Dispute
Canada's economy is bracing for impact from the US trade dispute. Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced dollar-for-dollar matching counter tariffs against the US, starting on September 8.
This marks the second time Carney has reversed policy on the issue of dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs. He said it was unrealistic a year ago but has now opted for this strategy in response to the breakdown of Canada-US trade negotiations.
Carney stated, '5@==2C he high costs of an all-out trade war include job losses, inflation, and bail-outs.'
