The government's proactive disclosure records reveal a pattern of excessive spending on business class travel and lavish catering for high-ranking officials.
In Montreal, the Business Development Bank of Canada's board of directors spent $9,030 on two separate meals from Robert Alexis Traiteur, with each attendee paying around $300. Meanwhile, in Ottawa, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions hosted a National Security Threat Forum that cost $9,582 for 225 people.
The Standards Council of Canada appears to have standardized on business class travel, with CEO Chantal Guay flying to Brussels and Geneva at a cost of $12,884. Her senior vice-president attended the same meeting, while also taking a separate trip to Singapore that overlapped almost day-for-day with another council member.
The deputy minister of employment and social development spent $15,919 on a trip to Berlin for the German-Canadian High Level Steering Committee, while an assistant deputy minister from Immigration spent $14,692 on a similar trip. The Secretary to the Governor General also took a $12,086 trip to London to support the Governor General designate during an audience with His Majesty The King.
