Canada Introduces New Vertical $20 Bill Featuring King Charles III
The Bank of Canada has unveiled a new vertical $20 bill featuring King Charles III. This marks the first time in over 70 years that a new monarch has appeared on the $20 denomination.
The note features a striking design, including floral emblems representing all 13 provinces and territories surrounding the king's portrait. The Canadian National Vimy Memorial in France remains on the reverse side, recognizing Canada's military service and sacrifices.
A circular transparent window on the note features plants that hold cultural significance for Indigenous Peoples in Canada. This element was developed with input from the Bank's Indigenous Advisory Circle.
The new $20 bill is part of Canada's vertical bank note series, following the $10 bill featuring Viola Desmond. The design includes a purple security stripe containing elements that spin, transform, and pulse when moved.
