Canada Job Market Data Due Amid Ongoing Trade War Uncertainty
Statistics Canada is set to release its labour force survey for August today. The report is expected to provide insight into the current state of the job market, with economists predicting that employers added 15,000 jobs in August. The unemployment rate is also anticipated to remain steady at 6.4 per cent.
The Canadian economy has shown resilience despite an escalating trade war with the United States. In July, it added 75,000 jobs, a significant increase. However, the ongoing tariffs and counter-tariffs have raised concerns about the sustainability of this growth.
The Bank of Canada believes that government support programs will help mitigate some of the harm caused by the trade dispute. Nevertheless, businesses may delay investment and hiring decisions due to the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
