Canada Jobs Report: Economy Sheds 42,000 Positions in August
The Canadian economy shed 42,000 jobs in August, falling short of economists' expectations for a modest gain.
The unemployment rate remained steady at 6.4 per cent, despite a strong run for the labour market from April through July, which added 181,000 jobs.
The manufacturing industry proved to be a surprise pocket of strength in August, gaining 22,000 jobs, but the sector has been hit hard by U.S. tariffs.
