Canada Must Stand Strong Against Trump Tariff Threats
Canada's economic relationship with the US is under threat as President Donald Trump continues to push for tariffs on Canadian exports. Local MP Michael Barrett says Canada needs to stand strong against these threats and focus on building a stronger economy at home.
The tariffs, which are scheduled to take effect August 19, have been sparked by ongoing trade disputes between the two nations. The White House has pointed to recent Canadian provincial bans on US alcohol products as one reason for the new tariffs.
Barrett says that while Canada should always work to strengthen its relationship with the US, it also needs to find new markets and focus on building a stronger economy at home.
The Canada-US-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) is currently under review as countries discuss its future. Barrett says he and his party want to support the federal government in its efforts to reverse the tariff threats.
