Canada Pours Record Investment into Xanadu Quantum Technologies
Canada has made a record-breaking investment in Xanadu Quantum Technologies, providing CAD $195 million to support the development of advanced facilities for manufacturing components for fault-tolerant quantum computers. The funding completes the federal portion of up to CAD $390 million for Project OPTIMISM and will enable Xanadu to create a vertically integrated quantum supply chain.
The investment is part of Canada's broader bet on domestic advanced manufacturing, talent development, and semiconductor-related technologies. Ottawa ministers framed the investment as a way to translate the country's quantum research strengths into globally competitive businesses and high-value jobs.
Xanadu aims to build heterogeneous photonic integration, packaging, wafer-level testing, and quantum module assembly capabilities in Canada, positioning it as a foundation for future quantum data centres. The initiative is expected to reinforce Canada's role in the global quantum ecosystem and ensure more of the economic upside from emerging quantum and photonic technologies accrues to the domestic economy.
