Canada Raises Tariffs on $20 Billion in US Goods Amid Ongoing Trade Tensions
Canada has implemented higher tariffs on $20 billion worth of U.S. goods in response to the U.S. government's decision to impose 50% tariffs on Canadian goods in late August.
The new tariffs, which took effect on Tuesday, target various sectors including steel and aluminum, pulp and paper, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, plastics, and electronics.
Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that Canada would match the U.S. tariff burden dollar for dollar, with most of the tariffs raised to 25% or 50%
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that the exchange rate between Canadian and U.S. dollars was imbalanced, although he did not provide further details.
