Canada Retaliates Against US Tariffs Amid Trade Deal Fallout

Canada's Prime Minister recently walked away from a trade deal with Donald Trump after calling the terms uneconomic and threatening Canadian sovereignty. Despite this, Trump's tariffs on Canadian exports took effect, hitting approximately $20 billion worth of goods.

The Bank of Canada's Mark Carney has announced that the country will retaliate dollar-for-dollar starting September 8, in addition to new support programs for affected industries. This is in line with previous commitments totaling $25 billion.
