Ottawa has rolled out a new policy aimed at attracting big-ticket investors to Canada. The program, which offers binding decisions from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), will now prioritize investors putting $1 billion or more into the Canadian economy.

The Advance Income Tax Rulings (AITR) program allows qualifying investors to get binding decisions on how income tax law will apply before they commit capital. The government claims this will reduce risks and give investors the confidence they need to move major projects forward.

The announcement was made as Prime Minister Mark Carney prepared to welcome investors from around the world to a high-stakes investment summit. Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne's office said the new policy is part of efforts to make Canada an attractive destination for foreign investment.
