Canada Seeks $1 Trillion Investment Boost with Five-Year Plan
Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney unveiled a five-year plan to attract C$1 trillion in capital during the country's first-ever Investment Summit in Toronto. The event aims to leverage Canada's resources, talent, and technology to drive economic growth.
The summit has already seen significant commitments from major players, including TD Bank, which pledged C$150 billion in lending, underwriting, advisory, and financing activities. This is expected to accelerate investment growth in key sectors such as clean and conventional energy, critical minerals, infrastructure, manufacturing, and AI.
Canada's resource sector is a significant driver of the economy, with projects like Canada Nickel's US$2 billion Crawford Nickel Project and NexGen Energy's C$1.6 billion Rook 1 uranium project already in development. The government has identified this sector as critical to driving growth over the next decades.
The summit comes at a critical time for Canada, which is seeking to build new partnerships and expand existing ones to reduce its reliance on the US as its most important trade partner. Prime Minister Carney will address the European Parliament in Brussels after the summit, focusing on energy, critical minerals, and technology sectors.
