Canada Seeks Diversified Trade Partnerships Through UAE Pact
Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney is making efforts to diversify the country's trade relationships, which are currently heavily reliant on the US economy. To this end, Canada has signed a trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), aimed at reducing barriers to goods, services, and investment.
The pact, which strengthens economic ties between the two countries, is expected to improve access for Canadian businesses to the UAE market, while opening doors for greater Emirati investment in Canada. The deal is particularly significant as it comes as Ottawa looks to reduce its exposure to external shocks by building stronger links with emerging markets and fast-growing economies.
The agreement covers sectors such as energy, mining, ports, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, clean energy, food security, and financial services. Canadian companies stand to benefit from stronger links with a UAE economy that has invested heavily in infrastructure, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and logistics networks.
