Canada Seeks Strength Amid Trade War
The Canadian economy is facing challenges due to the ongoing trade war with the US. To mitigate this, The Globe and Mail has proposed five ideas for a stronger Canada. These include investing in AI data centers, overcoming backlash from anti-AI sentiment, and requiring data center owners to provide their own power or finance equivalent new supply and grid capacity.
Another proposal is to remove regulatory obstacles that deter capital from backing new plants on Canadian soil. This includes accelerating the deployment of AI-enabled factory platforms, investing in 3-D printing capabilities, and skills training. Additionally, the government should take a share of the pipeline's equity or toll in return for some of the money invested.
The country also needs to focus on producing more goods domestically by treating physical AI and additive manufacturing as core components of its industrial strategy. This includes accelerating the deployment of AI-enabled factory platforms, investing in 3-D printing capabilities, and removing regulatory obstacles that deter capital from backing new plants on Canadian soil.
