Canada Sees Surge in Foreign Investment Amid Dollar Sell-Off
Canada saw significant investment activity in June, with foreign investors adding $40.8 billion to their holdings of Canadian securities. This mainly comprised federal government debt securities and private corporate bonds. In contrast, Canadian investors acquired $35.4 billion worth of foreign securities, primarily US corporate shares and bonds.
The dollar's value decreased against the euro and Swiss franc on Monday as traders reduced rate hike expectations following softer U.S. economic data. According to Kit Juckes, chief FX strategist at Societe General, traders are selling off the dollar due to concerns over U.S. economic growth and the Federal Reserve's interest rate response.
