Canada Sees Trump Tariff Moves as No Dramatic Escalation
The Canadian government is not viewing US President Donald Trump's latest tariff moves as a dramatic escalation. According to a senior official, at first blush 'it's not as bad as we thought it would be.'
The series of measures announced by the White House included an outright import ban on certain Canadian products. However, the official noted that Trump also removed other US import duties on Canadian toilet paper, road salt, and cement.
This move suggests that Trump is starting to understand 'those tariffs are not helpful to his economy,' said the official.
